Description
Healthy crops contain 50-100 ppm manganese, and the green color of
the leaves becomes lighter when manganese is deficient. Manganese
and iron are closely linked in the crop, participate in the
formation of chlorophyll, promote the action of oxidase, and
participate in nitrogen metabolism, carbohydrate assimilation and
ascorbic acid (vitamin C) production. In addition, the absorption
of more manganese in the crop can cause a decrease in iron
absorption. Conversely, an increase in iron absorption can cause a
decrease in manganese absorption.
Manganese moves slowly in the body of the crop. When the root
system is poorly absorbed, the veins of the young leaves are
yellowed, and the yellow veins are yellowed when there is a serious
yellowing. Because the symptoms are common interstitial chlorosis,
it is difficult to distinguish it from magnesium, iron, zinc and
other deficiencies. In the absence of magnesium, the yellowing of
the leaves first appears in the old leaves, and the young leaves
are basically not yellowed; while the deficiency of manganese
usually occurs first in the young leaves.
When the iron is deficient, the whole young leaves are yellowish
white. Even if the symptoms develop, the veins will not turn brown.
In the absence of manganese, the veins remain green (intermittent
chlorosis), the veins are light green, and there are small spots of
tan. In severe cases, the spots are connected into strips and
enlarged into plaques.
